Apprentice winner Tim Campbell explains how he is going to use Web 2.0 to help the country’s next generation of entrepreneurs.
In an exclusive interview with ExecUK, Mr. Campbell, winner of the first series of popular BBC reality show The Apprentice, outlined his plans to use a YouTube-style format for his government supported Bright Ideas Trust project.
New approach
The Trust, created to provide young entrepreneurs with business advice and financial backing, is to unveil a new project to help young people with challenging backgrounds to start their own businesses. It will use a video clip format for its submissions instead of the usual business plan.
“I’m battling against a lot on internet use in this demographic. There’s a huge uptake of social networking sites, internet TV channels, forums and blogs.
“We wanted to be different from other players in the market,” he explained.
“We didn’t want to scare people, particularly in the 16-30 demographic, away from business by the words ‘business plan’.”
Talking to ExecUK’s James Hurley, he revealed how intimidating the traditional proposal can be to people in this age bracket.
Privacy
“Instead of having to fill out a piece of paper as a first hurdle, you can upload a video explaining their idea to a page that we own - no one else will see it - and that will be our initial assessment of whether we want to support you or not.”
Each successful applicant to the Bright Ideas Trust will receive financial support as well as support from an extensive team of advisors.
