IBM has announced that it will open a new data centre in Scotland which will offer services to middle-sized businesses.
The new centre will offer services previously only available to larger businesses, such as an electric infrastructure backed up by generators, resilient internet connections, 24-hour security and energy efficient cooling.
The centre will be built to IBM’s ‘green’ standards using best practices in cooling and power management. The company has spent £540 million globally on reducing energy costs in its technologies.
“IBM has the skills to run, manage and monitor client IT, ensuring information is secure at all times," said Alex Reardon, IBM’s Director for General Business Sector in the UK. “This new service aims to offer quick financial returns to a medium sized business by removing the challenge of securing and maintaining their data centres, so potential savings can be ploughed back into their business.”
The centre is due to open in January 2009.
