Established in 1971, S&K Haulage (Glamorgan) Ltd is able to offer affordable logistics services to customers, no matter what their size. Exec finds out more

Made up of three companies, S&K Haulage Group is a family business able to offer a range of transport management and logistics services to its customers, many of which are based in South Wales. Run by the Kidby family, the company now counts blue chip businesses amongst its customers, offering solutions throughout the UK and Ireland.

Made up of S&K Haulage, Vaughan Transportation and Barry Storage & Distribution, the group operates from a five acre site at the Port of Barry, which houses a total of 40,000 square feet of secure warehousing for stock. In addition, S&K has a fleet of some 80 vehicles accompanied by 165 trailers, which have a range of features - the company’s 13.6 metre trailers are available as box vans, flat bed, skeletal or liquid tankers.

Temperature controlled vehicles can also be used where required. With such a wide range of capabilities it is easy to see why S&K is the haulage company of choice for its clients.

Three warehouses are based at the site in Barry and S&K is also able to offer picking and packing services to customers using its facilities. S&K are able to handle and store even the most troublesome of materials, because of their temperature controlled and secure sites, reassuring customers that their goods are in safe hands.

S&K is very proud of its competence when handling hazardous materials and is certified accordingly. The company can transport material types one through to nine for clients. A Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor is also on hand to oversee operations and to ensure that safety standards are continuously met.

Further, Its drivers and vehicles are ADR certified (the european agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road). This legislation regulates how dangerous goods are labelled as well as how the vehicles themselves are constructed, ensuring safe passage.

European services

S&K Haulage has vehicles travelling daily to locations not only around the UK, but Europe too. Offering low cost transportation to Dublin, Paris, Lyon, Milan, Barcelona, Munich, Hamburg and Brussels, the company can meet all customer requirements both on time and on budget. Other destinations include locations in Turkey, Russia, Sweden, Croatia and Bulgaria.

All jobs are carried out by S&K’s own drivers, in their own vehicles, which ensures that customers receive the service that they expect. The company’s primary objective is to provide a superior service for clients, which in turn is passed down the supply chain to their clients.

Affirming the company’s dedication to quality is the ISO 9002 certificate. In addition, S&K has invested in technology which allows the tracking of loads. Customers are able to log into the S&K Haulage webpage and gain information about the progress of their goods, an accurate ETA and who signed for the goods upon delivery. This information is available in a range of formats, according to customer requirements. Customer service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, because the company acknowledges that goods are on the move around the clock.

In order to meet the number of contracts that it has secured, S&K uses internet recruitment pages to find skilled and qualified employees and drivers - and training is vital to ensure that its employees remain loyal and grow with the company.

Environment

In line with growing concerns regarding the environment, S&K addresses the impact of its business upon its surroundings: “As a company we try to be environmentally aware and will address any environmental concerns which are raised with us,” MD Neil Kidby states.

S&K assesses the impact its vehicles have upon their surroundings, both in terms of noise and emissions (its vehicles are all compliant with EEC emission regulations), while is also recycles equipment and waste. The company uses the surface water from its site too in order to reduce its water consumption. Thanks to all of these considerations, S&K Haulage meets ISO 14001 standards.

With a range of services available to customers operating in a number of industries, S&K is able to satisfy even the most demanding of requests in a responsible and environmentally conscious way.
