The Porsche is one of the most sought after cars in production. And even when standing still, the new 911 GT2 expresses the power and performance potential of the fastest and most powerful road licenced Porsche. With the availability of the exclusive rear wheel drive and a manual six-speed gear box, this high performance competitor simply demands respect.

As a company, Porsche is always a step ahead in producing a range of prestige cars and with this high performance athlete, you can expect acceleration of 0-62 in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of an eye watering 204mph.

With an average combined fuel consumption of 22.6mpg, the car offers a level of economy that would have been regarded as quite impossible a few years ago.

The power unit of the new 911 GT2 is based on the six-cylinder ‘boxer’ engine of the Turbo, with air supply by two exhaust gas turbochargers featuring variable turbine geometry (VTG).

The 3.6-litre power unit achieves its maximum output of 530bhp (390kW) @ 6,500rpm, with maximum torque of 680Nm (501b-ft) maintained consistently between 2,200 and 4,500rpm.

This increase in engine power by 50bhp in comparison to the 911 Turbo is provided by fitting the turbochargers with larger compressor wheel and flow-optimised turbine housing, raising turbocharger pressure to an even higher level.

And for the first time, Porsche has combined the turbocharged engine with an expansion-type intake manifold; keeping the temperature of the fuel mixture lower. This gives a significant increase in efficiency, with fuel consumption reduced by up to 15 percent.

Now they've improved the ride and handling dramatically from the 996 model to the 997, it's a whole new driving experience. The new 911 GT2 is the first production sports car from Porsche to feature a ‘Launch Assistant’, enabling the driver to set off with optimum performance and ensuring simple hand¬ling at all times.

Gone are the days of rattling teeth and a car so twitchy you drove it home half terrified. However, unlike the slightly cheaper but every bit as exhilarating 4s, or even the Turbo, this car has few refinements and one could soon tire of its rawness.

But if you fancy boasting to friends about the track days you'll never actually go on after getting an astronomical quote from your insurance company, this is definitely the one for you.

The 911 GT2 will cost from £131,070 and is expected on the road for spring 2008.
