Carillion, which has signed up to the Ministry of Defence’s Sustainable Procurement charter, is picking up staff made redundant by house builders to fill key positions.
The firm, is said to be pursuing people in the house building industry, which has seen the industry's top three - Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon and Barratt - shed more than 3,000 jobs between them this year.
The downturn is also having other benefits, with some firms now coming to Carillion to see how they can run their businesses more efficiently.
Turnover was up 27 percent to £2.4 billion while pre-tax profit was up 42 percent to £27 million.
It has also signed up to the Ministry of Defence’s Sustainable Procurement charter, confirming its commitment to sustainability and procurement best practice.
The charter was signed by Carillion Chief Executive, John McDonough, and Chief Executive of Defence Estates, Vice Admiral Tim Laurence.
