In a recent interview with Exec magazine, Alan Duncan has been highly critical of the restructuring of the DTI.

Duncan, the former Shadow Secretary of State for Trade and Industry before its abolition in July said:

“DBERR isn’t yet a fully fledged department of commerce, which is what I wanted, and it doesn’t send the right message to our international partners. Business and enterprise are the same as trade and industry to all intents and purposes.

“But regulatory reform? The appliance of regulations is a national weakness of ours so why be so stupid as to put that into the title of the department that needs to be internationally attractive?

Bonkers

The Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform added: “Does he think an industrialist knows what a department of regulatory reform is? Gordon Brown must be bonkers if he thinks that helps our image abroad!”

The DTI was abolished on July 2 2007 to make way for Gordon Brown’s newly styled DBERR.
