Balfour Beatty has said that trading is strong despite the slump that is affecting the construction industry.

In a trading update yesterday, June 2, the company also said that a number of major new orders have been secured.

These include a US$330 million road project in San Antonia, Texas and an appointment as preferred bidder for the widening and maintenance of the M25.

Balfour went on to say that good progress had been made in its UK regional civil engineering network, which has been boosted by the acquisition of Dean & Dyball.

The company is also looking to perform strongly in Dubai where it expects the revenues of its joint venture to be approximately £700 million in 2008.

Looking forward, Balfour said: "We anticipate that order intake and trading performance will remain strong throughout the year and that we will make good progress in 2008.”
