BAA Limited, the owner and operator of seven British airports, has delayed choosing contractors for more than £9.5bn of airport projects until March next year.

The nine contractors understood to be in the running are Laing O’Rourke, Ferrovial, Carillion, Balfour Beatty, Skanska, Taylor Woodrow, Costain, Morgan Ashurst and Mace.

The delay is understood to have been caused by a Civil Aviation Authority review into price controls at Heathrow and Gatwick.

The decisions for the contractors will be made after the completion of Heathrow’s new Terminal 5 satellite building, T5c.

Carillion last week announced that it had won the £300 million contract for its construction.

Willie Walsh, Chief Executive of British Airways, said:

"We can't wait to open the doors to our customers on March 27 next year. Terminal 5 is a fantastic opportunity for British Airways and will transform our operations with less queuing, faster baggage systems and better punctuality.”
