Avondale Coachcraft enters administration

Employment fears have arisen as leading caravan manufacturer Avondale Coachcraft enters administration.

Almost 150 jobs are at risk after the company's plunge.

Mark Hopkins and Matthew Hammond of PricewaterhouseCoopers have been appointed joint administrators and are in talks with potential buyers.

The caravan firm, which designs and manufactures touring caravans, has an annual turnover of £16 million and employs 149 people from head offices in Atherstone and through 37 UK dealerships.

The big decline in the leisure sector is thought to be responsible for the collapse of the business.

PricewaterhouseCoopers said Avondale had “experienced a drop in sales during the summer months”.
