ASOS plc, the leading online fashion retailer, has said that first half sales are 104 percent ahead year-on-year, up from 80 percent growth in the same period last year.

The company defied the gloom in the retail sector to report a strong performance in the six months to September 30.

ASOS.com had 1.83 million registered users and 890,000 active customers by the end of the trading period, up from 490,000 last year.

The firm said that its performance reflected its strategy and the investments it made, and continues to make, across the business.

“We remain positive about the long-term prospects for ASOS and the future of online shopping in general,” said Nick Robertson, Chief Executive. “That said, we face tougher second half comparables, and still need to trade through the all important Christmas period before we can accurately assess our performance for the full year.”
