AGR Petroleum Services, the world’s largest independent well management company, drilled one in five of the exploration and appraisal (E&A) wells in North Sea’s UK sector during the first half of 2008, the company reports this week.
The news follows the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform’s (DBERR) announcement that a total of 61 E&A well were drilled in the UKCS during the first six months of this year - with AGR Petroleum drilling 11 of those 61 on behalf of nine clients.
Martin Ellins (pictured), AGR Petroleum’s UK and West Africa manager said: “We have experienced a significant increase in activity this year with the number of wells we’re scheduled to drill up 80% on last year. It’s certainly been a busy start to the year and we’re preparing for a number of exciting projects during the second half of 2008. “
The 11 wells drilled by AGR Petroleum were drilled on behalf of nine clients using five different rigs: Ensco 100, Transocean Prospect, Sedco 704, Byford Dolphin and GSF Arctic II.
According to DBERR, 30 exploration wells and 31 appraisal wells were started by the end of June, taking the UK’s E&P tally for the first six months of the year to 61 wells, just over half the total of 111 E&P wells for the entire UKCS last year.
